Be Part of the HSI X-treme Ability Challenge!

In addition to the donations from our generous supporters, each year HSI hosts the X-treme Ability Challenge (XAC) as our major fundraiser. It is an event designed to raise awareness of what we do and the challenges faced every day by the people we serve.

The XAC is a relay race where sponsored teams from regional corporations and other organizations compete... performing tasks that HSI employees do every day. The event also gives the community a chance to see inside HSI, serving as our annual open house.

Examples of events are posted below. These were the 2007 Challenges. We are currently working to build the 2008 Challenges please check back soon.

Tasks 1 through 4 will have some kind of physical challenge for you to overcome... Find out at practice!!!

STATION 1:
You will have to assemble a fan. Attaching the grill of the fan to it's base with 4 screws.

STATION 2:
You will have to place a label on a bag with only your non-dominant hand.

STATION 3:
You will have to attach the reel of a fishing pole to it's rod by screwing the reel on.

STATION 4:
You will have to attach the tackle box of a fishing pole to it's rod using tyraps. It will be necessary for you to cut any excess hangover of the tyrap off as well.

STATION 5 & 6:
Using the sign language alphabet, one partner will have to spell out words. The other partner will write the words out on paper. There is no talking allowed during this task otherwise a new word will be given and the task will start over.

STATION 7 & 8:
In a wheelchair, one partner will open a door and maneuver the wheelchair through the doorway, then pass the baton to the other partner. The second partner will close the door and then race to the finish line.

If the baton is dropped at any time during the race, the team will have to start over from where the baton was dropped.
