The story and the drive behind HSI.
Since opening our doors in 1977 as a small "sheltered workshop, High Sierra Industries (HSI) has grown and advanced into an organization that is recognized by local, statewide and national organizations for the service we provide to people with disabilities as well as our excellent, value-added services provided to light manufacturing, assembly and contract landscaping customers. With our trained staff, we employ and/or provide assisted living support to local citizens with mental and physical challenges in northern Nevada.
In addition to providing employment opportunities, we also encourage the individuals we serve to become self-sufficient and independent by delivering the best training and development services available.
Not wanting to be the stereotypical "poor non-profit" organization, HSI strives to assist our employees in being recognized as a contributing factor in their local work force and community, instead of being seen as "disabled" workers.
Everything we do at HSI revolves around enabling the people we serve.

HSI = Real Employees, Real Customers, Real Products
The manufacturing and subassembly work we do allows us to pay our bills, buy tools, etc. Our work requires that we meet production deadlines and produce quality work. One of our biggest challenges is that we are always training. HSI's facilitators are the direct coaches to HSI employees. Facilitators must teach, enable, track data, and keep up with required paperwork, just to name a few of their many required tasks. Aside from deadlines, and quality requirements, they need to continuously promote abilities, independence, self-confidence and pride.
